THE ACÀN SMOKING
THE TUXEDO IS BACK: WHAT MAKES IT UNIQUE TODAY
The tuxedo, also known as a dinner jacket, is the iconic evening wear and the ultimate symbol of black tie style. It goes beyond a classic suit. A tuxedo is a tailored outfit specifically designed for weddings, galas, and the most formal occasions. Its recognizable appearance lies in the satin or grosgrain details on the lapels, trousers, and often the buttons. These refined accents provide the timeless elegance for which the tuxedo has been known for generations.
Traditionally, the tuxedo is made in black or midnight blue and worn with a crisp white shirt, a black bow tie, and polished shoes. The story of this evening suit begins in 19th-century England with the smoking jacket. Later, it traveled to the United States where it became known as a tuxedo, named after Tuxedo Park in New York.
Today, the tuxedo is still the first choice for a wedding suit or a gala suit and for any event where style, class, and sophistication are paramount.
At Atelier ACÀN, we create bespoke tuxedos and dinner jackets. We combine the classic rules of black tie with a modern fit and contemporary finish. Whether you call it a smoking, tuxedo, or dinner jacket, the result remains the same. An evening suit that is stylish, confident, and unforgettable.

THE RULES OF A TUXEDO
01 — The Jacket
A single-breasted jacket in black or midnight blue with satin or grosgrain lapels. Often with a shawl collar or peaked lapels, never notched. The result is sleek, stylish, and instantly formal.
02 — The Trousers
Matching trousers with a satin side stripe. No belt loops, but perfectly tailored and worn with braces if necessary.
03 — The Shirt
A crisp white evening shirt, often with a pleated or piqué front. Cufflinks instead of buttons. Always understated, never ostentatious.
04 — The Bow Tie
Always a bow tie, traditionally in black silk. A regular tie does not belong with black tie. Extra style points if you tie it yourself.
05 — The Shoes
Shiny patent leather shoes or perfectly polished oxfords. Always black.
06 — The Details
Optional accents such as a silk pocket square, elegant cufflinks, or velvet slippers for a touch of personality.
At weddings, galas, or formal dinners, these rules ensure a tuxedo looks effortlessly stylish. Refined and chic, but never overstated.
